Artist's statement: I use photography combined with digital techniques to tell my story. My work studies opposing emotions often occurring simultaneously. I always strive for an abundance of hope in my images.
Artist's Biography: After graduating with an MSc and working in the private sector, my life as I knew it took an unpredictable turn and everything changed.
For many years after my initial hospitalizations I was lost and could not find a place to connect. Then I got a camera! Through the camera I began to see life differently, to see beauty and energy and light. And no matter how bad I felt the camera seemed to lift me. So I went back to school to learn photography and the digital darkroom. Using photo manipulation I am able to express what I have been holding in for many years. My work studies opposing emotions, depression and joy, anxiety and tranquility, despair and exhilarating freedom...through landscape, people, animals, and the environment.
Over the past few years I have been in several shows, galleries, was written in the Globe and Mail as one of R. M. Vaughan's favourites, and have won several awards. I am currently enrolled part time at Sheridan in the photography program and am teaching Photoshop and Lightroom at Workman Arts in Toronto.
