Artist's statement: My love for art started in the womb. Growing up, I was influenced by Shel Silverstein, comic books, The Masters, and Salvidor Dali. I am an illustrator working mostly in pen and ink and I love using multi-media. The subject matter of most of my works reflect my mental illness, sports, America, religion, and politics. I believe I have found my comfort zone but I am always looking to stretch it and explore new worlds. My work is never done and I am never satisfied...but I know at some point I need to stop.
Artist's Biography: Born in Halifax, MA, a small rural/suburban town, I started creating at a young age. My art and writing first explored my family dynamic--2 older sisters, my wonderful, loving mother, and my hard-working, Vietnam veteran Marine father who taught me so much in his own way. I graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School where I played football and basketball and found solace in my art and writing. I went on to UMass Amherst where I studied journalism and Latin and also had a short stint on the rugby team. After graduation, I struggled to get a grip on my mental illness (as I did since I was a child) and had trouble transitioning form college to real life. I soon found a teaching job working with at-risk youth (juvenile delinquents, if you will) and I stayed in the field for about 8 years until I found a job as a case manager working with people with disabilities. All the while, I kept creating, splitting time with art and writing, which led to my own artshow in a small up-and-coming gallery in Middleboro, MA in 2007. It was exciting and humbling and I believe many people experienced my world and struggled to understand it. Today, my health is fairly in check and I am happily married to Catie, my wife, who I met on her birthday in 2002. Without her, my life would be empty.
